Astronomy is a fascinating study of the universe and the way our cosmos is put together. Ever wonder about all those glittering specks in the night sky? Astronomy Club of the University of Maine (CAUM) brings together passionate amateur astronomers as mere curious about the sky. The association is open to everyone irrespective of status or special knowledge. No matter what you base your life upon whether its working a 9-5 job or being a high-roller in our club will welcome you. It is composed of fifty members who are sharing their knowledge, their practices, their work and have equipment for first practice the observation of the universe (see paragraph equipment for more details' information).
Beyond the exchanges and activities for members, CAUM organizes conferences, exhibitions, public comments and various public events. The club maintains close ties with the University of Maine. Synergies are developed with students, particularly in the context of research projects, to engage in technical and technological development (eg automation of the observatory). The club also maintains partnerships with various local organizations or institutions such as the Arche de la Nature.
Observations: As soon as the weather allows, the material was released and put into service observatory for observing the sky. It is also an opportunity for members to exchange experience, to test various equipment and even learn to use their own or learn more about heaven and how to identify. Comments may be held on Tuesday, but also at other times depending on current astronomical.
Projects Group: Astronomy has several specialties that can remember the preferences of fans. Thus, groups of members meet to establish or treat projects: CCD imaging, astrophysics, astronomy and computer ... These activities are open and left to the initiative of members.
Night of stars: The night of the stars is a manifestation of astronomy at the national level. Every year, the Club, in partnership with the Arche de la Nature, is organizing this major event on the Le Mans and welcomes the public to an evening with various activities. At night the stars, the observation site is one of the most popular in france.
If you are worried about what you might do with this line of study, you could always double major. Interested in counseling? Get a counseling masters degree at the same time you are getting your astronomy degree. Maybe you want to be an accountant (CPA questions)? Then double major in astronomy and accounting. Love business and want to start up an astronomy themed store? Get an international business degree. Anything is possible; you can be whatever you want to be. Your astronomy teachers should have degree certification and be able to provide proof of their teacher qualifications before they are hired. You will be able to start your job as an astronomer with confidence.
